Proton therapy causes fewer side effects than traditional radiation and major long term complications are avoided. Radiation is delivered as a proton beam directly to the brain tumor site, sparing healthy tissue. Proton therapy treatment should especially be considered if the affected area includes both the brain and spine (craniospinal).
