Dr. Juan Sanchis, a cardiologist at University Clinic Hospital in Valencia, Spain, summarizes his finding, published online first at www.mayoclinicproceedings.com http://tinyurl.com/4jpw78l and scheduled to appear in the April 2011 issue of Mayo Clinic Proceedings, that an index using the 5 comorbid conditions (renal dysfunction, dementia, peripheral artery disease, previous heart failure, and previous myocardial infarction) most associated with 1-year mortality in Non–ST-segment Elevation Acute Coronary Syndrome (NSTSEACS) predict mortality as well as more complicated currently available indices (eg, the Charlson Index and the coronary artery disease–specific index).
