Ecological Metadata in Drupal: Classifying information and associated Custom content types

submitted by: LTER_NetworkOffice_is
We have a series of clips that explain how we manage ecological metadata using the Drupal content management system: In this clip we offer an overview of common groupings of information as well as the Drupal "custom content types" we created to reflect these information categories. In other videos we explain how we deal with keywords (taxonomies), standardized services (Ecological Metadata Language, BDP, FGDC, ITIS) and curation processes using Drupal views.

Using Drupal drush and features to deploy a drupal-based metadata editor

submitted by: LTER_NetworkOffice_is
How to deploy a Drupal based metadata editor from scratch in about 10 minutes. The process can be faster and slower, but here we use the Drupal Shell (drush) and the features Drupal module to expedite the process of installing the application from scratch. It assumes that you have full access to the deployment server, you know some shell commands, and that you have a LAMP/WAMP distro. It also assumes that you are a bit familiar on how to use Drupal, what are modules, etc. The resulting...

Metadata Driven Analysis: Global Warming and EcoTrends

submitted by: LTER_NetworkOffice_is
We show the value of documenting your ecological and biological data files with rich-content, quality metadata that conforms to a common specification, such as the Ecological Metadata Language (EML). Here we demonstrate a couple of synthesis analysis projects that corroborate and expand scientific findings. The analysis was carried out fast due to the availability of standardized metadata records (in EML). We also show how to use the EcoTrends store front, for long-term ecological...

Getting Started with Ecological Metadata Language - Using Morpho

submitted by: LTER_NetworkOffice_is
You want to create a metadata record that describes your Ecological Data set. You want this metadata document to be standardized for easy sharing - and you thought that you would use the Ecological Metadata Language (EML). One way to create EML records is using Morpho. Morphos is free, download it from the "ecoinformatics.org" site and use this video-tutorial to see how you can use Morpho.

Getting started with the Ecological Metadata Language

This short clip shows you how to use Ecological Metadata Language to document your ecological data. Specifically, it tells you how to download EML, what tools can you use to edit/enter EML metadata, and as an example, it shows how you would use oXygen to create a simple EML document, that is, a metadata record with very basic info such as a title, an abstract, contact info for the organization owning the data set and the point of contact information.
