Ecological Metadata in Drupal: Classifying information and associated Custom content types

submitted by: LTER_NetworkOffice_is
We have a series of clips that explain how we manage ecological metadata using the Drupal content management system: In this clip we offer an overview of common groupings of information as well as the Drupal "custom content types" we created to reflect these information categories. In other videos we explain how we deal with keywords (taxonomies), standardized services (Ecological Metadata Language, BDP, FGDC, ITIS) and curation processes using Drupal views.

Ecological Information Management at the Virginia Coast Reserve Long-Term Ecological Research Project

submitted by: VCRLTER
A brief introduction to ecological information management as practiced at the VCR/LTER

Rod Surface Elevation Table data collection on the Virginia Coast Reserve Long-Term Ecological Research Project

submitted by: VCRLTER
Linda Blum of the University of Virginia demonstrates the use of a Rod Surface Erosion Table (R-SET) to measure changes in the elevation of the root zone in a Virginia salt marsh.

Surface Elevation Table data collection at the Virginia Coast Reserve Long-Term Ecological Research Project

submitted by: VCRLTER
Mark Brinson of East Carolina University explains the use of Surface Elevation Tables (SETs) to measure changes in the surface of a salt marsh.

Cryocoring at the Virginia Coast Reserve Long-Term Ecological Research Project

submitted by: VCRLTER
Robert Christian of East Carolina University demostrates cryocoring procedures used at the Virginia Coast Reserve Long-Term Ecological Research Project. Cryocoring down to a marker horizon is used to measure accretion on a salt-marsh surface.

A Brief Introduction to the Virginia Coast Reserve Long-Term Ecological Research Site

submitted by: VCRLTER
This video contains an informal introduction to the study sites of the Virginia Coast Reserve Long-Term Ecological Research Project (VCR/LTER). It provides a basic orientation to the barrier island - lagoon system on the Atlantic Coast of the Delmarva Peninsula, with special attention to study sites used by the VCR/LTER

Metadata Driven Analysis: Global Warming and EcoTrends

submitted by: LTER_NetworkOffice_is
We show the value of documenting your ecological and biological data files with rich-content, quality metadata that conforms to a common specification, such as the Ecological Metadata Language (EML). Here we demonstrate a couple of synthesis analysis projects that corroborate and expand scientific findings. The analysis was carried out fast due to the availability of standardized metadata records (in EML). We also show how to use the EcoTrends store front, for long-term ecological...

Should Genomics Contextual Data Fly Coach?

submitted by: dougramsey
Inigo San Gil, University of New Mexico The Long Term Ecological Research Network (LTER) creates long-term ecological data records in twenty six sites across the US. Five years ago the LTER adopted a metadata specification called the Ecological Metadata Language (EML) to facilitate network data integration and synthesis. A growing number of LTER scientists are conducting genomics research, thus the need to adopt an integrated genomics and ecological data management system is urgent. Recently,...
