SNP Linked to Bladder Cancer Risk, Telomere Length

submitted by: mdanderson

At AACR 2011, Jian Gu, Ph.D., of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center discusses his research connecting a single point of genetic variation to both lower bladder cancer risk and the length of telomeres -- protective tips on the ends of chromosomes. Short telomeres are associated with age-related diseases, including some cancers. Gu's findings are the first to connect a SNP to cancer risk and telomere length.
