This video briefly summarizes an undergraduate research project that examined potential consequences to sustainability stemming from demographic change in the San Diego Region. This video presents a brief look at some of the findings of this study, including some results from a survey of regional architects' opinions regarding demographic changes and the effects which these changes may have on the design requirements and sustainability of current housing designs.

City Heights: The Gentrification & Displacement of Vulnerable Populations

Urban redevelopment has been the “new” strategy to bring re-investments within cities. However, this has caused great concern for many because redevelopment can also lead to the gentrification of “blighted” communities and the displacement of low-income residents, many of which are minorities of color. By focusing on the impacts of redevelopment on the residents of City Heights, a community within San Diego, this case study seeks to identify signs of gentrification and displacement.
