Description: The California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (Calit2) represents a new mechanism to address large-scale societal issues by bringing together multidisciplinary teams of the best minds to develop and prototype software, hardware, systems and cyberinfrastructure in a real-world context. A partnership of UC San Diego and UC Irvine, Calit2 was established in 2000 by the State of California as one of the four California Institutes for Science and Innovation. The institute is also an experiment in inventing the university research environment of the future, in order to meet the state's goal of remaining at the forefront of the high-tech economy.
