The Good, The Bad and The Ugly: A Transition Towards Smarter Growth

Key findings:  Through collaboration the region of San Diego has created a policy framework that effectively reduces some effects of sprawl by focusing on certain principles of the smart growth campaign. However, the only statistic that was not proven effective anywhere in the region was transportation to work patterns. Between 1990 and 2007 the percentage of people driving their cars and people taking public transportation to work had very little change, including the TOD’s.
