Key findings:
In this research, I wanted to determine what incentives airports have for adopting sustainability programs. The airport industry is largely uncompetitive and thus airports do not have the incentives of competition to drive their sustainability programs. Through this study, I found that airports implement sustainability programs because of three broad reasons: 1) for positions as industry leaders; 2) because of increased awareness of the importance of environmental stewardship; and 3) because they have new regulatory mandates with governmental bodies.
