ESA-SS Eco-Film Festival 2010

The Student Eco-Film Awards (SEAs) is a contest designed to honor outstanding student contributions to ecological science through film. Conducted in partnership with SciVee, the contest will open on January 24th, 2010 and will culminate in a two-hour film festival at the 2010 Ecological Society of America (ESA) annual meeting in Pittsburg, PA. ****You do not need to be a student, and you do not need to attend the annual meeting to apply.**** EVERYONE IS ELIGLE - just one of the people involved needs to be an ESA member, which is open to anyone interested ( The category for this year’s film is “Educational” and is targeted towards students interested in creating short films aimed at educating others about any topic related to ecology or climate change. The only requirements are that it be: -made for educational purposes -less than 8 min long -suitable for public display -does not violate copyright law (all material must be your original work) Beside the general topic of ecology or climate change, the content is up to you and we encourage you to be creative and develop your own approach. *****SUBMISSION DEADLINE is June 30, 2010, 11:59 PM EST******* A panel of judges will determine the most outstanding films to receive 1st-3rd place Student Eco-Film Awards and the People’s Choice Award will be voted on by the public (limited to one vote per person). The top four films from this year’s competition will also be shown during this year’s 2010 ESA student film festival. The goal of the festival is to increase student participation within ESA and to promote the awareness and understanding of ecological science within ESA, the scientific community and ultimately the public. AWARDS 1st place – $150 2nd place – $75 3rd place – $50 People’s Choice – $100 (voted on by anyone visiting SciVee) Voting for the People’s Choice award is easy. Go to the ESA student film festival contest site at Make sure you are logged into the SciVee site and then view the videos. Click the star rating you prefer under each video that you review. A “Thank You for Voting” notice will appear and your vote will be recorded toward the total for the People’s choice award. You may only vote once for each video. Here’s how to upload your video: 1. Go to and login to Scivee or register if you're not already a user. 2. Follow the video upload process: - Mark your entry as a "video only." - Give your video a title, a short description, and list the authors - Choose the appropriate audience and subject areas. 3. When asked to enter tags, make sure you enter ESA-SEFA as the first tag. Adding other tags is also permitted. 4. Click finish and you'll be automatically entered into the contest.
