UPDATE: THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN'S WORLD CHANGING IDEAS CONTEST. THE DEADLINE HAS PASSED FOR NEW VIDEO SUBMISSIONS. WE'VE HAD MANY EXCELLENT VIDEOS SUBMITTED TO THE WORLD CHANGING IDEAS CONTEST. HOWEVER, WE HAVE NOT HAD A SUFFICIENT NUMBER OF ENTRIES TO ALLOW US TO FAIRLY CHOOSE A WINNER AND RUNNERS-UP IN EACH OF THE FIVE VIDEO CATEGORIES, NOR HAVE WE HAD A SUFFICIENT NUMBER OF PEOPLE'S CHOICE VOTES TO CHOOSE A PEOPLE'S CHOICE WINNER. THEREFORE, WE'VE SELECTED ONE WINNER AND TWO RUNNERS-UP SELECTED FROM AMONG ALL THE VIDEOS SUBMITTED. WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED ON OR ABOUT OCTOBER 1ST, 2010. PLEASE STAY TUNED FOR WINNER ANNOUNCEMENTS TO FOLLOW. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Contest Overview Scientific American is pleased to announce The World Changing Ideas Video contest, in partnership with SciVee. The contest is open to video entries about innovative ways to build a cleaner, healthier, safer world. The ideas represent a simple yet powerful vision of a better future. Some ideas may be in use now; others are emerging from the lab. For examples of World Changing Ideas, see “World Changing Ideas,” Scientific American; December 2009 - http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=world-changing-ideas. We are seeking non-commercial videos of 2 - 5 minutes in the following categories:
  • Energy
  • Transportation
  • Environment
  • Electronics or Robotics
  • Healthcare or Medicine
Scientific American will judge the entries (and ask our readers to pick their favorites in each category), and announce the winners in September, 2010. Videos will be judged on overall impact, scientific content, concept/originality, entertainment value, and production quality. Viewer's Choice Award. There will also be a viewer's choice award in the Energy category. To vote your choice make sure you are logged into the SciVee site and then view the videos. Click the star rating you prefer under each video that you review. A “Thank You for Voting” notice will appear and your vote will be recorded toward the total for the Viewer's Choice award. You may only vote once for each video. Here’s how to upload your video: 1. Go to http://www.scivee.tv/uploadvideo and login to Scivee or register if you're not already a user. 2. Follow the video upload process:
  • Mark your entry as a "video only."
  • Give your video a title, a short description, and list the authors
  • Choose the appropriate audience and subject areas.
3. When asked to enter tags, make sure you put WCI-Energy to submit your entry to the appropriate category. You can submit only one video per category. 4. Click finish and you'll be automatically entered into the contest. It's that easy!
