Freemium and Subscription Models for Individuals, Publishers and Scientific Institutions

(San Diego) – September 2, 2009 - SciVee (www.scivee.tv ), an internet video web site dedicated to the dissemination of scientific research and collaboration, announced today significant upgrades and enhancements as part of a strategy to commercialize the site. For individual researchers and scientists, SciVee has adopted a “Freemium” model, where the majority of the website remains free while only a small portion of the uploads are fee-based. The company has also added a subscription service that enables institutional customers to easily extend their on-line presence with video and other rich media capabilities.

Access to and viewing of all open content on the SciVee site remains free to users, as does posting of standard videos, podcasts and creating science communities among researchers with similar or related interests.

“This major release is part of our natural evolution from a free science video site to a rich media solutions provider to the entire science community that includes individual researchers, scientists and educators as well as STM publishers, societies, conference organizers and universities,” said Marc Friedmann, chief executive officer of SciVee. “SciVee has grown rapidly during the last year in terms of unique visitors, registered users and content uploads. We developed this hybrid business approach based on customer demand and extensive inputs from our users, industry partners and prospects.”

Starting in September 2009, SciVee will begin charging for uploads of products that use its web-based, patent-pending video/text synchronization technology. Those products include SciVee PubCastTM, PaperCastTM, PosterCastTM, SlideCast and BookCastTM . Collectively called SciveeCasts, these products allow the author to synchronize their video with their textual material along the video timeline so that the viewer can see and hear discussion of their paper, poster, slides or book and simultaneously read the highlighted text.

Two payment methods for SciveeCasts will be offered:
• A per unit plan for individual researchers or institutions that upload to SciVee on a limited basis, using a shopping cart that allows payment via credit card.
• A subscription based plan for institutional customers that wish to incorporate SciVee products into their rich media offering. Rates are tailored to each customer based on subscriber or membership base, traffic and usage, and organization status (profit or non-profit, etc). A dedicated SciVee channel and additional service and support offerings are included with subscription plans.

Unlimited Individual Free Uploads through the end of 2009
As part of its transition to a Freemium model, a special offer is being made to all SciVee individual users. Researchers and scientists registered by September 30, 2009 will be able to upload an unlimited number of SciveeCasts for free through December 31, 2009.

In addition to adding eCommerce capability, other significant changes to the SciVee site include:
• Re-organization of the home page and addition of landing pages oriented toward commercial customers;
• Enhanced capabilities for review and release of content by channel managers;
• Addition of a “featured channels” section on the home page;
• Revised links to improve and simplify navigation throughout the site.
